Getting Our Hands Dirty for a Great Cause: A Day Volunteering at IBCC

When we talk about supporting our clients, we usually mean digital campaigns, content creation, and strategic planning. But sometimes, the most meaningful support comes from rolling up your sleeves and getting directly involved in their mission.
That’s exactly what happened when our Project Manager Sam and Account Manager Victoria spent a day volunteering at the International Bomber Command Centre (IBCC), a long standing client of Laser Red.
More Than Just Poppies
The task at hand might have seemed simple – picking and packing poppies from IBCC’s recent exhibition display – but the impact was anything but. Each poppy was part of a powerful display that honoured the memory of those who served, and now they were getting a second life as fundraisers for four important charities.
With over 20,000 poppies to process, it was clear this was going to be a team effort. Sam and Victoria found themselves working alongside IBCC’s dedicated regular volunteers and members of the RAF team, all united in carefully boxing up each poppy and preparing them for their journey to new homes.
The Power of Showing Up
There’s something special about supporting a client not just through screens and strategies, but by being physically present and contributing to their cause. For Sam and Victoria, it was refreshing to step away from their usual digital work and support IBCC in person.
“The atmosphere was absolutely brilliant,” they reported. “It felt great to get stuck in and support IBCC not just digitally, but in person too.”
Working alongside the regular volunteers and RAF personnel gave us a deeper appreciation for the community that surrounds IBCC and the passion that drives their mission forward. These are the people who keep the centre running, who preserve important history, and who ensure that the stories of Bomber Command continue to be told.
Why It Matters
Days like this serve as powerful reminders of why we choose to work with clients who make a real difference. While we’re proud of the digital work we do for IBCC – helping them reach new audiences and share their important message online – there’s nothing quite like seeing the impact up close and contributing directly to their cause.
The poppies that Sam and Victoria helped pack will go on to raise vital funds for charity, ensuring that the exhibition’s impact extends far beyond its original display. It’s a perfect example of how meaningful work can have ripple effects, creating value that goes well beyond the initial purpose.
A Day Well Spent
As Sam and Victoria packed up at the end of their volunteering day, they reflected on how rewarding it had been to contribute directly to such an important cause. The combination of meaningful work, great company, and the knowledge that they were helping raise funds for charity made for a truly fulfilling experience.
For organisations looking to build stronger relationships with their clients and give back to their communities, we can’t recommend volunteering opportunities highly enough. Sometimes the best support you can offer isn’t digital at all – it’s simply showing up, getting your hands dirty, and being part of something bigger than yourself.
Thank you to everyone at IBCC for welcoming Sam and Victoria, and for all the incredible work you do in preserving history and serving your community. We’re proud to support you both digitally and in person.
