Hydraulic Megastore couldn’t find its own products

That’s not us being cheeky. Hydraulic Megastore has spent over 30 years building one of the biggest catalogues of hydraulic components and fittings in the country, technical specialists on hand, thousands of SKUs, the works. And its own on-site search couldn’t reliably surface them. They knew that user experience (UX) was suffering as a result.

We’d already been working with Hydraulic Megastore on web development, keeping the site moving as the business grew. That closeness is exactly how we spotted the problem before it became a bigger one: the search plugin running the site was structured in a way that meant it couldn’t fully index a catalogue this complex. Products with the right technical specs were getting lost. For a brand where customers search by spec, not by browsing, that’s not a minor bug. That’s the front door sticking.

Salesfire integration live

The fix – Salesfire

The fix wasn’t “add better search”. It was “add the right search”

We didn’t want to bolt on a generic search widget and call it done. We’d seen Salesfire’s Search solution handle complex, high-SKU catalogues elsewhere, so we brought them in and worked alongside their team to integrate it properly, full product feed, every variant, every attribute, every stock status, all indexed and all searchable.

Hydraulic Megastore also started using Search’s promotion tools to push key product categories to the front when it mattered, rather than leaving everything to the algorithm.

What changed

Search now drives 47% of total site revenue. Conversion rate is up 75% where Search is doing the work. Numbers like that don’t come from a nicer-looking search bar, they come from the UX being just right and customers actually finding what they are looking for.

Chad Morton, eCommerce Manager at Hydraulic Megastore, told us the previous provider simply wasn’t cutting it for a catalogue this specialised, and that the improvements since switching have been substantial enough that Search is now central to how the site runs day to day.

Our own Kevin Oliver, Director of Client Operations & Strategy, put it plainly: Hydraulic Megastore came to us with a real problem, not a vague brief, and our job was to find the right fix. Salesfire was the right fix. A proper agency-and-partner relationship: two teams solving one commercial problem for one client.
